I’m on a foray into some Victorian Science Fiction for a nice change from the historical. I needed some dastardly opponents for my red coated Brits and who better than the Germans right? Two world wars and one world cup and all that, what what!
What do you think of these? Are they ready for service on Mars?

Prussian Test Models
I don’t want to use the regular Prussian uniform from the Franco-Prussian War as it doesn’t really do anything for me. So I have put together my own little colonial uniform for them. Khaki pants and a light gray tunic. I can’t decide whether to go with a black helmet as per usual or a helmet with a cover on it (the one in khaki). Opinions welcome please!

Megagame – A term used by H.G. Wells upon the invention of recreational wargaming, as documented by his chums. It usually means a larger than usual game that contains many participants. Usually a game that requires many participants to collections to pull off.
There, now it’s official.

I haven’t been posting for a while due to a few different things.
- lack of reader interest (not you though, cause you’re reading this)
- Crazy pace of real life at the moment
- Revived interest in my first 6mm passion, the Seven Years War
I have been painting up troops for Might and Reason like it’s going out of style. I have found that I enjoy cavalry for a change. All of the things I didn’t like about them before, seem to entertain me now. The endless outlining of horse furniture and the many angles of approach for your brush. Who knew?
Anyway, I’ve been geeing it laldy with the SYW painting.
Take it easy.

Finally some new pictures. While I havn’t been posting as I needed some time to assess the amount of time I was spending taking pictures and blogging versus the feedback, I have been painting like a madman. Well, like a madman for me, I’m a very slow painter.
I finished all of the forces that will be on the table for the British side in my Freeman’s Farm scenario. This is 932 infantry, four command stands, and seven gun stands. Quite a tidy little group if I don’t say so myself.
These are not my best photos as I’m still trying to work out the best way to take effective pictures of large groups of miniatures. I have it down pat for small groups, but still a lot to learn.

Recently my painting pace has slowed, but with a great reason. I listen to The D6 Generation while I paint (I highly recommend them for some great entertainment even if you don’t play the games they talk about (which I don’t)). One of the games they talked about a lot was Carcassonne, and their wives seemed to like it. I thought I would give it a try, and I’m glad I did.
My wife is a very keen monopoly player (the game bores me to death) and we have played scrabble many times (she kills me) but not for years. We mostly spend our “quality” time when the kids are in bed watching dvd’s as we have no channel reception on the TV. I suggested we try the Carcassonne game and she VERY reluctantly said she would give it a try. Now I knew she was just humoring me and had no interest in trying a “geek game” as she loving refers to them.
Well, I kicked her butt, but she wanted to try again. In the first week we must have played seven games, all of them suggested by her. This game is a winner guys, give it a try. It’s gaming light for us, but you can get your significant other playing and it’s fun.
The game is a tile laying and puzzly type strategy game, but is great fun. We have since ordered the two player only version, Carcassonne the Castle and are busy trying to get to grips with that.
Give it a try! Only your painting will suffer.

I have not been on top of my project size page as I should lately. I just updated it as I have recently passed the 2100th figure mark. It seems very rewarding to get this far. I am a completionist and would like to be able to run any scenario I would like without having to worry about if I have enough units or having to make unreasonable proxies. I don’t mind exchanging one unit of continentals for another, but would like to stick with militia representing militia and hat companies representing hat companies.
I just started my first unit of dragoons and they are going fine. I really don’t like painting horses, that’s one of the reasons that I like the AWI so much. I should have some more pics up soon.

Saratoga 1777
Saratoga 1777: Turning point of a revolution by Brendan Morrissey is a book that should have had a review when I first started this blog. I think it’s just that getting the Osprey for a relevant subject just seems like a no brainer to me, it’s simply my first step in any kind of research on a military subject.
I think this book is one of the essential books for recreating this campaign. It has all of the Osprey staples that wargamers need, great OOB’s and lots of maps. It is a quick, easy read and gives you everything you know to get started. Perhaps it’s a fault of mine, but I don’t have much to say as it simply delivers everything you know and love about Osprey publishing, that I don’t have a more critical review. I thoroughly trust the author and would recommend ANY of his AWI books from Osprey.
Get it, love it!

I am looking for a new base provider. I placed an order with Litko Aerosystems, Inc. on the 9th of April. It is now the 28th and after an email to customer service (which was very polite and informative on their part) I find out that it may take four weeks to ship, then there’s the shipping time to consider. Now, I’m not an instant gratification type of guy (then I’d play video games rather than paint, right?) but this seems a little long to me, perhaps on the border of unreasonable. Especially as I’m paying $6.20 for shipping, which seems on the high side.
If anyone knows of a place to get 3mm ply-wood bases in 30mm x 60mm or round, please let me know. I’m a bit of a stickler for consistency, so I may be stuck.

I will most likely leave my “Top Wargaming Blogs” suedo-poll open for another week, then I’ll do a post with the results. After that, I’ll take some time off. There are a few reasons for it. I have tried numerous times to get some feedback to see what people would like to see more of what just find out what they like in general, and most of it has been for nowt.
Taking pictures and posting takes time, and with little feedback there’s little motivation to keep it up. I have tried to put up something interesting AT LEAST once a week, interesting is the hard part. I have been painting like a freight train lately, and I feel the time will be better spent painting until I get a posting bug again.
Thanks to those of you who have posted, I really appiciate it.

What are your favorite wargaming blogs? There are many out there, but there are fewer good ones?
What makes a blog a “good blog”? I would say:
- Regular updates (how many sites come up, get four posts in a month, then lay un-attended for months on end?)
- Useful, relevant content to you. The type of content that is useful is extremely personal.
- Lots of pictures, after all this is a visual hobby
- Let me know if I forgot anything…
