BUF (3) – Command

I’ve been wanting to add this command group for a while, so I’m really glad to have finished them.  The models are great and lots of fun to paint.  I added a spare British Regular command figure and just painted him in BUF colors.  I think it’s fair to assume that he might have had an old army uniform that he altered to wear with his new organization.

This is the first flag I’ve ever worked with in 28mm.  I like the way it came out.  The flag is from VBCW enthusiast 6mil Phil and was offered over on his blog.

Over all these figures should help to keep the rabble on track and lend some much needed support.

BUF (2)

I’ve been planning on adding more troops to my VBCW project for a while, but I got sidetracked for a while with starting my own miniatures line.  At the moment I don’t have anything to do but wait, so on to more painting.

This is a pretty tame group, just a few more weak minds and strong backs to continue to bulk out my Fascist forces.  These guys are immense fun to paint, I kinda think about them like storm troopers in Star Wars.  The ever present guards and toughs there to be taken out by the heroes.  Bad guys can be fun too, right?  That’s the one great thing about this setting is that even though they are fascists, they don’t come with all the baggage that German fascists do.

I’m beginning to experience a little frustration with the Musketeer Miniatures VBCW scultps as the faces are looking pretty rough on this lot.  Don’t know if I got a bad cast or whether the mold is wearing out, but they take some love before they get to the painting table.

Just working on some transport, they just need a bit of a wash and a matte coat and I’ll have another blog post for the Crossley tenders soon.

BUF Painting Guide

I just finished up some more of my BUF troops for a VBCW and though they aren’t very complicated, I couldn’t remember what colors I used for  some of the details.  So this is mostly a record for myself, there may be others out there that would like a starting point for painting their own British Fascists.  I used all Vallejo paints with the following names.

English Regulars, BUF, IRA, and Eddie

I have been wanting to paint this lot for some time.  All of the models are from the Musketeer Miniatures Interwar and WW1 ranges, with one exception.   The figure of Edward is a freebie given away at a British wargames show called Partizan.  A very nice gentleman sent it to me, thank you again sir.

A Very British Civil War

This is something I have wanted to paint a force or two for for a long time.  It’s a what if based on a cross between the Spanish Civil War and the politics of per-war Britain in the 30’s.  Very well laid out setting, if on the low production side, by a small core of adherents mostly in the British Isles.

So, let’s start with Eddie.  This great model was supposed to be a bit ambiguous I think.  You can sort of paint him in any style to fit with you particular vision of what the king was doing during the Civil War.  I’ve got him painted as a Black Shirt supporter.

The British Union of Fascists (BUF)

I have been fascinated by this group ever since I first learned about them through VBCW, I thought they were made up at first.   Quite a bit of reading later and I’ve found out much more about them.  I’m married to a Brit and I like to learn as much about British History as I can when it’s interesting.

The uniforms on these lads are based on actual black shirt styles, but in the end are open to interpretation.  I chose a figure I had seen on a message board and based my uniform on them.  I tried to give the uniforms some light details to offset the super dark uniform.

I like the results, except for the helmets.  I couldn’t find a nice green that wasn’t too dark, so I painted them light grey. Here you go.

British Regulars for the Irish War of Independence

I have been wanting to get these guys for some time.  I just really like the look of them and since they are major players in the IWI and can be used in VBCW, it’s a go.

I’ve had a hell of a time finding info on the uniform details and finding a closeup of painted models online is impossible.  I’ve gone with the best info that I had, comments and criticisms welcome, I’ve got lots more to paint and want to get it right.

IRA

These are some new IRA recruits. I’ve only painted three as the forth came damaged.  I’m still liking these figures as they are good fun to paint.

So that’s my continuation of my IWI range and a huge leap into VBCW.  I’ve no real interest in Communist or Socialist forces in the VBCW, despite being a Socialist in actuality.  So I will most likely paint up some Scots to oppose my BUF and Royalist forces.  Should be a nice exercise.
